Displaying pretext
I've caught a few college games over the past two weeks, a little WHL action, and talked to some scouts about the OHL, KHL, and AHL. Below is the product:
Joe Colborne, Center, Toronto Maple Leafs (Toronto-AHL)
For years, scouts have been waiting for Colborne to click. He produced well in college, then underwhelmed a bit in his first AHL year, but every scout I talked to said that if he just improved his physical game and on-ice drive a little more he'd be a bona fide top line kind of prospect. With that being said, here is a quote from an AHL scout on Colborne's play this year, "He's simply looked great. He's making plays by himself, but he's also driving the net, taking hits, and getting more involved in terms of physical contact." It should be no surprise then with Colborne's raw skills that as of this writing Colborne is currently leading the AHL in scoring with eight goals and 16 points in nine games. His shooting percentage is bound to drop as he has eight goals on merely 27 shots, but there are a lot of positive signs going on for Colborne and he's arguably one of the top center prospects in the game currently.
