The Puck Prospectus metric GVT (goals versus threshold) allows us to compare players at every position to determine who the true leaders are. As December kicks off, the GVT rankings were shaken up by two NHL superstars who boosted themselves into the top 10. Martin Brodeur jumped 13 spots to No. 2 and Sidney Crosby jumped 12 spots to No. 6.
Puck Prospectus: Player Power Rankings
A lot of churn near the top of the rankings this week, as two of the NHL's greats, Martin Brodeur and Sidney Crosby, ride excellent weeks to a spot in the top 10.

Rank Player Last Week OGVT/GGVT DGVT SGVT GVT
1. Ryan Miller, G, BUF 1 12.1 0.2 1.7 14.0
Miller continues to dominate the league, allowing only five goals on 88 shots
(0.943) this week.
2. Martin Brodeur, G, NJ 15 9.1 0.5 0.6 10.2
An incredible week for Brodeur, as he became the NHL's all-time leader in
minutes played and won his three starts allowing only a single goal in each.
Shutout No. 103 can't be far behind.
3. Zach Parise, F, NJ 6 6.3 2.7 1.1 10.1
Parise's point streak is now at 10 games, and he added a shootout goal for
good measure. Most importantly, thanks to Parise and Brodeur, the Devils are
looking like the class of the league.
4. Marian Gaborik, F, NYR 9 8.1 2.1 -0.5 9.8
A rough week for Gaborik's Rangers who played four games in six nights, but
Gaborik still contributed seven points, including four in a win against
Columbus.
5. Evgeni Nabokov, G, SJ 2 9.0 -0.1 0.5 9.4
Two wins in three games, but Nabokov and the Sharks were taken to school 7-2
by Chicago, in which Nabby was pulled after four goals.
6. Sidney Crosby, F, PIT 18 5.4 1.5 2.1 9.0
Sid's five-point explosion against the Rangers was one of the finest
individual performances this season. With Malkin, Kennedy, Goligoski and
Letang back, the Penguins are looking scary good.
7. Ilya Bryzgalov, G, PHO 7 7.4 0.6 0.7 8.7
Bryzgalov continues to hold the fort, but the Coyotes' lack of offense cost
them two games in Edmonton and Calgary.
8. Anze Kopitar, F, LA 7 6.2 1.7 0.6 8.5
Kopitar's scoring has fallen off the face of the Earth, with only a single
assist in five games. Luckily the Kings have been playing solid defense and
have won two of those five games.
9. Alex Ovechkin, F, WAS 8 7.4 1.3 -0.2 8.5
Ovechkin's two goals and two assists helped the Caps pick up five of six
points. His goal helped key a 2-0 win against a strong Sabres team.
10. Antero Niittymaki, G, TB 3 7.9 -0.3 0.7 8.3
Amazingly, Wednesday's loss to Toronto was Tampa's first home loss of the
season.
